Absolutely Skint Privacy Policy

Absolutely Skint Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 May 2026

This is the absolutelyskint privacy policy. It covers what happens to your data when you visit www.absolutelyskint.com. I'll keep it plain.

I'm a solo indie developer running a blog. I'm not harvesting your data to sell you anything. I run ads to keep the lights on and I use analytics so I know whether anyone actually reads this stuff. That's essentially it.

What Information Gets Collected

I don't run any custom login system, user accounts, or forms that collect personal information directly. There's no database somewhere with your name and email in it — unless you emailed me, in which case yes, your email is in my inbox like any normal email.

That said, the site does collect some information through third-party services. Here's what those are and what they do.

Server Log Files

Like every web server on the planet, this one automatically logs basic request data when you load a page. That includes your IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps, and referring URL. These logs exist for security and debugging purposes. I'm not manually trawling through them to build a profile on you. They cycle out over time.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. I don't set any first-party tracking cookies myself. The third-party services listed below do set cookies, and those are covered by their own policies.

If you want to block cookies entirely, you can do that through your browser settings. Be aware that blocking all cookies will affect how third-party content like ads renders on the page.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to see how people find and use the site — page views, session length, which posts actually get read, that sort of thing. Google Analytics collects data like your IP address (anonymised), device and browser type, pages visited, and approximate geographic location (country/region level).

Google processes this data on their end. I see aggregated reports, not individual user data. If you want to opt out of Google Analytics tracking across websites, Google provides an official browser add-on for that.

You can read the full Google Analytics data policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Google AdSense

The site runs Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other sites across the web. This is what's called interest-based advertising.

If you'd rather not have personalised ads, you can opt out through Google's Ad Settings. You can also use the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. Non-personalised ads will still show — they just won't be tailored to your browsing history.

I don't have access to the data AdSense collects. Google controls and processes that data under their own privacy policy.

GDPR — If You're in the EU or UK

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have rights over your personal data. These include the right to access data held about you, the right to request deletion, the right to object to processing, and the right to data portability.

Since I don't directly collect or store personal data beyond server logs (which I don't control at an individual level), most GDPR requests would need to be directed to Google, as they are the data processors for Analytics and AdSense on this site.

If you have a specific concern or request, email me directly at the address listed at the bottom of this page. I'll respond and figure it out.

CCPA — If You're in California

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal data is being collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal data.

I don't sell your personal data. I don't have a database of users. The data that is collected (via Google Analytics and AdSense) is processed by Google, not sold by me.

If you want to limit data collection, use the opt-out tools linked in the Google Analytics and AdSense sections above.

Third-Party Links

Posts on this site sometimes link out to other websites — game pages, tools, platforms, things I'm writing about. Once you leave absolutelyskint.com, this privacy policy doesn't apply. I'm not responsible for how other sites handle your data.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect any data from children. If you think a child has submitted personal information to this site, contact me and I'll sort it out.

Changes to This Policy

I'll update this page if anything changes. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect when it was last revised. I'm not going to send you a newsletter about it — there is no newsletter.

Contact

If you have questions about this policy, you can reach me via the contact details on the about page.

If you're curious about the site itself, I write about indie game development and manga creation. You can read my thoughts on whether SEO is even worth your time as a developer in this post on indie developer SEO, or check out the games I'm actually making over at the games section.
